Author collects stories of fun from the faithful

Have you heard the one about the flower girl who dropped her petal basket and stuck her fingers in her ears when the wedding soloist began to sing?

If you've read Margaret Biggers' latest collection of "Churchgoers' Chuckles, Vol. 2" (A. Borough Book, $8.50) you have. For more than two decades, the Charlotte author has plumbed the pews for high hilarity from the faithful. And it turns out there's a lot of giggling going on.

I'm not a joke teller, never was," Biggers said. But she finds irresistible such stories as this, one of her favorites: "A little girl was watching her father's installation as church deacon. 'Wait,' the child announced, 'My dad can't be a deacon, he's a Tar Heel.'"

"Maybe you have to be from North Carolina to appreciate that," Biggers laughed.
