Popular Beer Glasses

There are different types of beer glasses, shaped and styled in a variety of ways. The shape of a beer glass can affect both the taste and aroma of the beverage as well as affect the amount of head from pouring the beer. Different shapes also give a nice aesthetic and appearance of the beverage.

Many beer glasses feature a thinner mid-section to prevent the warming of the beer by the drinker's hand.

With the variety of beer glasses available, there are three significant styles of beer glasses most commonly used today. The first, and probably most common is the pint glass, which gets its name because it holds an imperial pint of liquid. A pint glass is normally used for drinking stouts, porters and English ales and are usually available in three common shapes: conical, jug and flared top. The second most common beer glass is the wheat beer glass, used specifically for wheat beer.

Generally, the wheat beer glass holds 500 milliliters and is much taller than a pint glass. Wheat beer glasses are narrow at the bottom and grow wider towards the top, as the tall glass provides room for the foam head, which seals the flavor and aroma in and maintains a visually appealing look. The last is the Pilsner glass, which was invented to serve Pilsner, though now is commonly used for all types of beer. The intent of the Pilsner beer glass is to show the color and clarity of the beer as well as maintain a nice foam head. Tall and slender, the Pilsner glass is smaller than a pint glass, commonly in 250 ml or 330 ml sizes.

There are many other types of beer glasses and glassware intended for a number of different types of beer and alcoholic beverages. These however, are the three most common beer glasses used in many bars and pubs today.
