The Silver Age began in the late 50′s/early 60′s and was pretty much lead by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and the rest of the Marvel guys with their creations of Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Daredevil, The Avengers, Iron Man, Dr Strange, and all their contempories.

Most people agree that the Silver Age ended in late 1970, when Kirby left Marvel. Others put it even earlier, at mid-1968, when new distribution arrangements meant that Marvel could and did rapidly expand its range of titles, resulting in more creative staff being brought on and new directions being taken.

This is a fun one. Okay, so many anecdotes, so little time. So here are a few that didn’t make the cut.

At my wedding (and I mean the big, non-legal one, not the small, legal one) I was crazed doing the tables at the last minute because so many people changed their RSVP at the last minute, or called the day before and said, “We are coming, and where should we stay?” (um, I did list hotels with special rates on the invite, but never mind) So my best gay friend and I were creating the place settings about 2 hours before the service. Some tables made more sense than others. Oh well.

I forgot to set aside time to get dressed and to have someone help dress me. My guy friend Whitney had been recruited to be our videographer. He was following me around for the video, and I yelled at him to put down the camera and help me get dressed. My friend Teresa was my hair and makeup woman who thankfully works fast and very well. I sat down, and she started creating these curls.

April 1st is April Fool’s Day – no joke. Although there is no real consensus how or where April Fool’s Day began, one thing is for certain, April Fool’s Day is just plain fun. Many people in many nations play all sorts of practical jokes and pranks on the first day of April. Some take part in the annual foolery by dishing out the standard “pull my finger” or old stand-by “whoopee cushion” trick, while others go all-out with elaborate schemes and hoaxes.

Besides individuals pranksters, some companies and websites also take part in the April Fool’s Day fun. Google, the Internet search engine, is notorious for online pranks. From the free TiSP service that provided “in-home wireless access by connecting your commode-based TiSP wireless router to one of thousands of TiSP Access Nodes via fiber-optic cable strung through your local municipal sewage lines”, and the helpful Google Romance service to the groundbreaking Google Book Search Scratch-and-Sniff, one never knows what the creative folks at Google will come up with next.

In our rushed and hurry-up world, April Fool’s Day is a gentle reminder for all of us to lighten up and not take life too seriously.

Laughter is used as a signal for being part of a group it signals acceptance and positive interactions with others.

Laughter is sometimes seemingly contagious, and the laughter of one person can itself provoke laughter from others as a positive feedback. An extreme case of this is the Tanganyika laughter epidemic. This may account in part for the popularity of laugh tracks in situation comedy television shows.
